Obituary of Maria Mendez

Maria Mendez passed away on April 9, 2022.  She was born on July 4, 1945 in Mexico to Longino Mendez and Piedad Banuelos. 

One of Maria’s favorite past times was knitting.  Whenever there was a new grandchild or great grandchild coming into the family she would knit them an outfit to be presented when they left the hospital.  She loved her family deeply and always wanted to spend time with them.  She wouldn’t miss any of the grandchildren’s graduations or birthday parties.  She felt birthdays were so special she would plan a celebration herself if a family member didn’t have something planned themselves.  She also loved to travel and visit her children and grandchildren. 

Maria was known to be a great listener and gave great advice.  Her family will miss her wisdom and guidance. 

Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Rito Gomez, whom she always referred to as the love of her life who was taken too soon; her son, Remigio; and her siblings, Matias, Catalina, Anita, Felicitas, and Eugenia.  She is survived by her children, Hilda (Juan), Jesus (Juanita), Rosalba (Pedro), Elijio, Rocio (Javier), Rito Jr.; 23 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and siblings, Lupe, Maximiliano, and Concepcion. 

Her viewing will take place on Monday, April 19^th from 1-5pm at Healey Mortuary Chapel with a Rosary beginning at 4pm.  A Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, April 19^th at 10am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church followed by burial at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Prunedale.
