Obituary of Dwight W. Greenwell

Dwight Wayne Greenwell, 71, passed away on October 7, 2022. Dwight was born on January 20, 1951 in Fort Worth,Texas to William and Joan Greenwell. The family moved to Seaside, CA in the early 1950’s.

Dwight was the oldest of 6 children and he loved each of his siblings unconditionally. He was always by their side, willing to lend a helping hand or offer advice whenever it was needed. He was a proud Spartan graduating from Seaside High School and Monterey Peninsula College before attending San Jose State University.

Dwight worked at Walter’s clothing store and later accepted a position as a lineman at Pacific Gas & Electric Company. He was eventually promoted to the position of Sr. Engineer Estimator and served as an exemplary employee for 40 years before retiring in 2017.

Dwight loved to bowl and was proud to have bowled a perfect 300 game. He enjoyed watching and participating in group sports and even coached and refereed youth basketball. Dwight loved being a grandfather and cherished the time he spent with his grandsons. They each held a special place in his heart. He also enjoyed going to breakfast with his close friends to reminisce, share a good meal and laughter. He was a mentor, a role model and a friend to many.

Dwight was a devoted member of New Hope Baptist Church in Seaside, CA since 1999. He served as Chairman of the Deacon Board for 20 years, Secretary of the Brotherhood and on the Trustee and Usher Boards. Dwight showed his love for Christ by his dedication to family and service to others.

He is preceded in death by his parents William and Joan Greenwell.

He is survived by his wife Jacqueline of 23 years, his children, Stacey Greenwell,Tabatha Greenwell, Raven Thompson, Patricia Ware-Williams(Omari Williams), Patrice Ware & William Ware (Crisanee Ware), Grandsons: Omar Malik Cross, Onasis Wayne Greenwell, William Christopher Ware & Omari Josiah K. Williams, Siblings: William Greenwell Jr., David Greenwell, Gerald Greenwell (Toni Greenwell), Joy Bryant (Gregory Bryant) & Michael Greenwell (Gwynn Greenwell), his aunt Patricia Cass and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The wake will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 1 at New Hope Baptist Church in Seaside from 4pm-8pm. Anyone interested in sharing expressions with the family may do so at this time. The funeral service will also be held at New Hope Baptist Church on Wednesday, Nov. 2 at 11 am with burial to follow at Mission Memorial Park.
