Juanita Dauphine

Obituary of Juanita Castaneda Dauphine

On February 8, 1950, Juanita Castaneda Dauphine, the eldest of 3 siblings, was born to Maria and Julio Castaneda of San Antonio, Texas. It was then at the age of 3 or 4, the family moved to San Martin, CA, and then to Elkhorn, CA by the age of 5 or 6.

Juanita, a resident of Monterey County for over 70 years, has always been surrounded by her family and friends. Growing up in Monterey County, Juanita attended and graduated from North Salinas High School. It was then she worked numerous jobs, but it wasn’t until she worked at Mount Toro High School and met her 2nd husband, Herman Dauphine. Previously married with 3 children of her own, Juanita gave birth to 2 more children.

After working at Mount Toro High School, she obtained a career as an Emergency Room Medical Unit Clerk at Natividad Medical Center for over 15 years. It wasn’t until about 8 years ago, Juanita decided to retire from her position to spend more time with her family.

A beautiful person who has shown kindness, care, humor, compassion, strong will and a love for shopping, cherished all the people she encountered in her life. She lived her life to the fullest until a diagnosis of Cancer took over. But, the will to keep going, the drive to push was her outlet.

Until, a 2 year battle ended on Monday, February 27, 2023 at around 2:15 pm, where Juanita took her last breath. A rainy and cloudy day, Juanita’s window was open to hear rain one last time. A sound that she loved so dearly was at the home of her son in Salinas, CA. Being surrounded by her family and staying connected to her friends was all she ever wanted, and grateful for the ones that stayed connected to her.

She leaves behind 2 younger brothers Julio Castaneda Jr., and Johnnie Castaneda of Monterey County; her eldest son, Jose Antonio De Lucas and his wife Christine De Lucas of Texas, youngest daughter Isabel De Lucas along with 2 grandson’s Gabriel Sebastian and Michael Sage of Monterey County. Cypress Lord, the only son of Juanita’s late daughter Linda Castaneda and her only great-granddaughter, Lynn Lord of Washington State.

Her eldest son from her second marriage to Herman Dauphine, Emile Dauphine along with his fiancee Janet Tubera of Monterey County, and Juanita’s youngest son Herman Dauphine Jr. of Monterey County also survive her.

The family would also like to express thanks to the VNA Hospice nurses, Social Workers who showed support and care for our late mother Juanita. We are thankful for all you did. Thank you
