Obituary of John Ruiz

Life Legacy John Ruiz, 67, native and lifelong resident of Castroville, passed away on August 27, 2015 surrounded by his family at his son's home in Elk Grove, California. He was born to Joseph and Lottie Ruiz on January 9th, 1948 in Salinas, CA. John attended Castroville schools and graduated from North Salinas High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He went to work as a auto mechanic at Victory Toyota, VIP Lincoln Ford & Mercury and Corey Pontiac. John was well known for his talents in auto mechanics and his overall gift of being a handy man he could fix anything broken and or in need of repair. Which is why he was also known as “John to the Rescue”to his family and friends when called upon to be their Mechanic, Plumber, Electrician, Painter, Carpenter, Gardner and his most recent accomplishments with his Mr. Fix it abilities was building fences, which he was greatly proud of. To know him was to love him. John loved his children dearly and would do anything for them, He also loved and adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren they were the light of his life. He had an awesome sense of humor and was known as the family comedian and in his younger years he was a great prankster. He was a devoted uncle to his nieces and nephews and treated them as if they were his own. John is survived by his mother, Lottie Ruiz of Castroville; sons, John Ruiz Jr (Shawna) of Las Vegas, NV and Stephan Ruiz (Brandi) of Elk Grove; daughters Juanita Ruiz-Byrnes (Paul) of New Albany, IN and Michelle Ruiz-Williams (Larry) of Salinas; grandchildren, Johnathan, Jaycob, Mikayela, Jorey, Makennah, Brittney, Lindsey, J.D., Justin, Vanessa, Sabrina, Samuel, Joseph, Isabelle, Anthony, Aaleigha, and Adam, Seth, Dyani, Olivia, Breana and Caleb; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn, Alyna, Alexavier, Aalilah, Devin, Ethan and Emmalee; siblings, Susan Pere (John) of Prunedale and Josephine Ruiz of Castroville; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and his childhood best friend, Kenny Beasley of Castroville. He Preceded in death by his father,Joseph Ruiz,brothers Robert and Joseph Ruiz and his sister, Dorothy Lathum. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 1-9pm at Healey Mortuary 405 N. Sanborn Rd Salinas, CA 93905. A Funeral Mass with Rosary vigil will take place on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 10:45am at Our Lady of Refuge Catholic Church 11140 Preston St. Castroville, CA 95012. Burial with Military Honors to follow services at the Castroville District Cemetery 8442 Moss Landing Rd Moss Landing, CA 95039.
