Obituary of Donald Barnes

Donald “Sonny” Edward Barnes Sr. passed away peacefully at home on December 5, 2015 at the age of 84. Donald was born May 22, 1931 in Salinas, CA. He was the son of the late Johnny and Elizabeth Barnes. Don served in the US Military during the Korean War. After an honorary discharge, he became the owner/operator of Barnes cabinets for over 25 years until he retired in 1986. In his early years his interests involved, coaching little league, riding motorcycles with his son, dancing at the 5 High with his wife and friends, shooting pool, archery and fast cars. He also took pride in arm wrestling; winning, even if unevenly matched. Later in life, he greatly enjoyed watching his Granddaughter play softball, where he became a well known fan throughout the team and never missed a game. He also took joy in four wheeling and trips to the Boardwalk with his Grandson. When able, he and his wife appreciated trips to Reno and Chukchansi. Sonny always wore a smile and had a story or joke to tell. He is preceded in death by his wife Darlene of 62 years. He is survived by his son, Donald Barnes Jr. “Rowdy”; his daughter, Lori Ancelet; his son-in-law, Randy Ancelet; and his Grandchildren, Shawna Buschmann and Kyle Ancelet along with their families. At the family’s request, a private viewing will be held. Graveside Services will be held at Queen of Heaven Cemetery on Friday, December 11th at 11:30am. All are welcome to attend. A Celebration of Life will follow for all of those who would like to attend at his daughter’s home in Prunedale.
