Obituary of Anny Reid

Anny was a long time member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Salinas. Anny Christine Reid passed away at the Windsor Ridge Rehab Center in Salinas, California on Sunday, March 30, 2008. Anny was born on September 24, 1925 in Nuremberg, Germany. She married Levi L. Alire and immigrated to the United States in 1950. She arrived by Greyhound in Salinas from Denver, Colorado in 1951, and had resided in Fort Ord Seaside, Monterey, and Lompoc, before settling in Salinas in 1955. Anny worked for Western Union as a teletypist in Monterey, Ft. Ord, and Salinas. She also worked for the Salinas City Police Department, as well as the Monterey County Sheriff's Department, where she also ran the teletype machine and was a matron until her retirement. Upon her retirement, she married her second husband, William J. Reid and moved to Winslow, Arizona. After his death in 1971, she remained in Winslow until her son's graduation. She then returned to Salinas to be closer to her eldest daughter and new grandson. She again became a Monterey County employee working as a clerk at Natividad Medical Center, until she permanently retired. Anny was preceded in death by her siblings, Erna Marquer, Emil Ulrich, Harry Ulrich, and a nephew, Gregory Marquer. Anny is survived by her four children, Rene Myers of Salinas, Lisa Murphy of Salinas, Carmen Alire of Vacaville, and son John Alire of Monticello, Iowa. Anny also leaves behind four grandchildren, Douglas W. Myers, Dwayne L. Myers, Erin Alire, and Dayle Murphy. Great grandchildren Alexus Severson and Ethan Myers. In addition, nephews Werner Marquer of Hitchcock, Texas and Danny Marquer of Houston, Texas.
