Obituary of Esperanza Varela
Esperanza Varela Montanez, mother to 17, grandmother to 56, great-grandmother to 98 and great-great grandmother to 21, loved by all, passed gently away on Thursday, December 13, 2007. A youthful 84, Hopie, as she was known, was still a part of everyone's life. Her children and grandchildren took her to the nail salona nd hairdressers weekly, after she got beautiful, she would visit her friends in the Mall. She also loved those once in a while out of town trips to the casinos, but it was her Wednesday and Thursday night outings to Kaoreoke that she enjoyed the most. Born in Heber, California on May 24, 1923 on the ranch. In 1941, she met Luis Varela, and married two years later, and settled in Chualar. There, they raised 13 children. In 1963, they moved to Salinas. She had been employed at Dick Bruhn's from 1979-1985, and One Hour Martinizing 1986-1996.
