Obituary of Joan Houda

Joan Weston Houda, 50, of Salinas, passed away Monday November 19, 2007. Born July 29, 1957, in San Jose, she graduated from Del Mar High School in San Jose, in 1975. She attended West Valley College in Saratoga, CA, and graduated in the Nursing Program there. She also attended San Jose State University, San Jose City College, and Hartnell College. She worked as a nurse for the most part of her 30 working years. And as Assistant Administrator for Batterson Nursing Home in Santa Cruz for the latter part of the 11 years she worked there. She worked for Maxim and Valley Health Associates just prior to her passing. She was very involved in her church in Soquel, CA; the Central California Conference Seventh-day Adventist run [boys & girls] scouting organization, Pathfinders; and School Nurse at VHM School in Santa Cruz. Her hobbies included making pottery and ceramics at Hartnell College, knitting, sewing, crossword puzzles, reading, cooking, and gardening. She grew up in San Jose, married in 1976, and started a family in San Jose. In 1987, she moved with her family to La Selva Beach, CA. Subsequently, the family moved from Santa Cruz County to Salinas, CA in 2003 to the present. She celebrated her 31st wedding anniversary on June 10, 2007. She was a very loving person, who will be missed by her family, church family, and friends. We all love you and miss you very much. We will see you again in Heaven. She was preceded in death by her parents Clarence and Nancy Healey, and her sister Jan Barnekoff. Survivors: Michael Houda [husband], Milos [son], Nancy [daughter], Michael [step son], David Barnekoff [brother-in-law], Andrew Barnekoff [nephew], and Greg Barnekoff [nephew], and relatives out of state.
