Obituary of Mary Hansen

She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Salinas Court #686 Mary Hansen, 83, of Salinas passed away Friday evening, March 28, 2008. She was surrounded by the love of her family and friends during her most recent stay at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. Mary was born on August 2, 1924 in Hartford, Connecticut, the youngest of three. She married in 1946 and in 1950 with adventure in their hearts she and her husband packed all of their belongings into their station wagon and headed to Los Angeles, California. She and her four children made a life in Anaheim, California, until moving to Salinas in 1993. Through the years, Mary had office jobs at various places in Anaheim. Her favorite job was working at the city of Anaheim in the Parks & Recreation Department, where they affectionately called her "Mrs. Crabtree". She retired from there and moved to her youngest daughter's home in Salinas in 1993. Mary loved people and loved to laugh. She had a great sense of humor and a contagious smile. She lived a long and happy life. She enjoyed good health for most of her "39" years. She was able to travel some and enjoyed shopping and being with her friends at church events. She was a kind and compassionate friend and knew the importance of sending just the right card and the right time. She loved eating Lay's potato chips with her grandson, and making her special Christmas cookies for family and friends. She is survived by her children, Stephen Hansen, Susan Pardy, Sheila Staves, Samantha Barnes, her seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and an inurnment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Salinas, California.
