Obituary of Virgie Taylor

Virgie was born on June 21, 1918 in Cherry Valley Arkansas; the second oldest of 8 children born to Charlie and Josie Hambrick Jones. She attended schools there and worked with her siblings on the family farm until the age of 18 when she married a young up and coming farmer, Marvin Taylor. A few years later she and her husband decided to sell the family farm and move with their children to California where the sun was always shining and work was plentiful. One additional child was born and they lived in the Salinas Valley from that point forward, with Virgie working in the agricultural industry after her children were older. She worked for a number of produce companies including, the Grain Company, Lettuce Pack, and finally with Pacific Fruit Express until her retirment. Virgie was very active in the local church community, as well, along with her husband Marvin, and they were instrumental in founding the consolidation of the First Assembly of God Church in Salinas. Virgie also taught Sunday School for many years, was a leader in the Women's Missionary group, and became an Ordained Minister in her earlier years. She and her husband maintained a visitation ministry for the ill and held church services for the local senior convalenscent community. Virgie made a life ministry of helping others and gained many friends during her lifetime. She is preceded in death by:her parents, husband, 2 children, 1 sister, and 2 brothers. She is survived by: sisters, Eunice Whitt of Arkansas and Francis (Jay) Bennett of Tennessee; brother, Herman (Bonnie) Jones of Tennessee; daughter, Barbara (Harold) VanSchuyver of Salinas; son, Gene (Gloria) Taylor of Clovis; grandchildren, Rick (Darla) VanSchuyver of Seaside, Mike (Debbie) VanSchuyver of Salinas, Gerrod (Jennifer) Taylor of Salinas, Genelle (Matt) Taylor - Kumpe of Fresno; great grandchildren, Justin, Chad, and Cooper VanSchuyver, Joshua and Eric Taylor, Aiden Kumpe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
