Oscar Nolan

Obituary of Oscar Nolan

Carmel Valley - Oscar F. Nolan, at the age of 63, passed away peacefully at home from cancer on December 9. Oscar was born in San Francisco, the first child of Oscar and Helen Nolan with a twin brother born soon after. His father, a physician, died tragically before his birth as a result of a boating accident on Tomales Bay. Oscar moved with his mother to Lafayette Louisiana where he grew up surrounded by extended family. His schooling included Castle Heights Military Academy, University of Southwestern Louisiana and culminated with his Masters degree in Communication Studies from California State University, Sacramento. Oscar served in the Air Force and retired as a Captain stationed in California at Mather Air Force Base prior to finishing his education. Oscar had an uncanny ability to understand how everything worked, and was very generous with his time and heart. He is survived by his loving spouse, Glen Cheda, brother James Nolan, nieces Jessica and Julienne Nolan, great nephews Darby, Casady, and great niece Anna, stepchildrren Thomas, James and Bonnie Carroll, Godchildren Amber Carroll and Amidie Shaw. Oscar has left many loving friends behind. Oscar and Glen met at the Esalen Institute in Big Sur in the early '80's while Oscar was studying bodywork and holistic health sciences. They worked at the Gazebo Park School under the direction of Janet Lederman. They moved to Carmel Valley and worked in personal property management, both on the Monterey Peninsula, as well as in Big Sur. No services are planned. Oscar would like a Celebration of Life that will be planned for sometime in the coming year. Donations to your favorite charity, Hospice of the Central Coast, or to the Monterey Peninsula Choral Society, in Oscar's name would be most appreciated.
