Obituary of Rory Coster

Rory Wymond Coster (5/30/1945-2/21/2009) Rory Wymond Coster was born in San Francisco, CA. and passed away peacefully in Salinas Valley where he spent most of his life. Rory was an administrator, teacher, counselor, public relations director, and producer. Rory’s show business background began as a young boy immersed in the planning and year long events of the California Rodeo in Salinas, as his father Eric Coster, was the longtime Public Relations Director for over 20 years. This was a family affair, where both Eric and Rory’s mother, Harriet worked tirelessly preparing for the big show. Rory recalled the excitement and the enthusiasm of the Rodeo in Salinas which included Hollywood Stars and popular parades. In 1975, Rory fulfilled the Public Relations position when his father became ill. That year marked one of the Rodeo’s most attended. Rory taught English and Drama in the Salinas Union High School District for twenty-seven years and was a volunteer and counselor at Sunrise House for fifteen years. Upon retirement, he developed Felicity Productions, the Salinas based full service film and video production company. In his later years, he focused on television production and laying the foundation for the creation of LATINVISION. Deeply committed to youth and community service, Mr. Coster was active in the California Rodeo (committee member). Salinas Jaycees (Project Chair & Chapter Officer-Secretary) Rory’s Public Relations experience also included heading the Public Relations Department of the Salinas Valley Fair. Rory maintained a passion for the Arts in Drama & Production throughout all of his life and was a local’s talent enthusiast. He never failed to give an encouraging word or deed. He also thrived in lending a helping hand to assist start up businesses become successful. In Memory of Rory, a scholarship fund will be established at the Hartnell College for the Drama and Multimedia Departments.
