Obituary of John Hollister Peterson

John Hollister Peterson, our dear brother and friend, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2023.   He also went by other popular names like John John, Rock Star, and Man of the Hour.

John John was born and raised in Salinas and was the fourth of six children born to Archie and Barbara Peterson.  He graduated from Salinas High School in 1974 and later lived in the Bay Area before returning to Salinas, where he lived the rest of his life.

Rock Star was a huge participant in the Special Olympics and was proud of showcasing his medals.  He enjoyed his cats, listening to Elvis Presley, and rooting for his San Francisco Giants and Oakland Raiders.  He, like his mother, had never met a stranger and was adored by all he knew. 

Man of the Hour’s passing was preceded by both his parents and his sister Sandy.  He is survived by his sister Sue Balentine and brothers Kurt, Tom, and Ken.   A Celebration of Life is planned for his memorial.
