Obituary of Maxine M. Rogers

Maxine Rogers, 90, of Salinas, passed away on January 24, 2024.  Maxine was born August 15,1933, in Blackwell, Oklahoma to Glenn and Grace(Ford) Skidmore. She attended Salinas High School and sang in the acappella choir.  She graduated midterm in 1951. Maxine attended Hartnell College where she received her AA degree.

She married Edward L. Rogers on January 20, 1951 in Reno. Nevada. They were attended by her brother Glenn A. Skidmore and sister-in-law Sharon ( Kenworthy).  They made their life long home in Salinas.


Maxine worked in Carmel at the Bavarian Shop part time to relieve the owners  ( her friends) on much needed days off and vacations. She became friends with other shop owners who eventually asked her do the same for them.  So, part time became full time. She ended with a vast knowledge of Bavarian artists and golf attire and accessories.

She was an avid reader, loved SF baseball and football, an excellent cook, baker and made the best macaroni and potato salads which were always requested for family gatherings.  She enjoyed getaway trips to Chukchansi.   She loved animals, especially Heidi, her herding dog.


Maxine is survived by her daughter, Janet Rogers Houser of Bozeman, MT.; two sister-in-laws, Jean Rogers and Nancy Skidmore.  Also surviving are nieces and nephews;  Don Skidmore (Korky), Sue Cox (Ron), Laurie Ferreira,  Deb Duncan (Dan), Michael Skidmore and Michelle Skidmore. There are 5 step grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren and 7 great great great grandchildren, as well as many friends and neighbors.

She is preceded in death by her husband,  Edward L Rogers, Sr.; son, Edward L Rogers,Jr., her parents, brothers,  Glenn A Skidmore and Kenneth O. Skidmore, niece, Cheryl Pence and nephew, Kenneth Jr.

She will be missed for her sparkling green eyes, sense of humor, quick wit and sage advice.

A viewing will take place for Maxine on Tuesday, February 6th from 1-6pm at Healey Mortuary.  Her Funeral Service will be Wednesday, February 7th at St. George Episcopal Church, 98 Kip Dr, Salinas, CA 93906, beginning at 11am.  Her private Burial will take place at Garden of Memories Memorial Park.
