Obituary of Daniel James Powell

Daniel James Powell was born in 1949 to Brendan and Jessica Powell in Louisville, Ky.  He died unexpectedly on December 21, 2023.  During his childhood years, he developed athletic skills in several sports.  He also became known for his toughness, rebellious nature, humor and colorful personality in LaGrange, Illinois.  Dan then met the love of his life, Nancee.  They married in 1971.  By 1979 they moved to the Monterey area.  The couple raised two sons, Matt and Kevin. Dan worked as a carpenter building and remodeling many homes on the peninsula, until his retirement.  He will always be remembered for his sports enthusiasm, joke telling, love of music and German Shepherds.  Above all, the joy his grandchildren brought into his life.  “Dan the Man” will be sadly missed by family and his many friends.  Dan is survived by wife, Nancee; sons, Matt and Kevin; sister, Lys; brothers, Tom and Billy; grandchildren, Brysyn, Kendall, Hunter, and numerous nieces and nephews.  Join the family at Calvary Monterey for a celebration of life to be held at 1:30pm Saturday, February 17, 2024.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
