Obituary of Antonia "Toni" Bravo Ramirez Guevara

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Antonia “Toni” Bravo Ramirez Guevara, aged 91, on March 5th, 2024, in Salinas, CA. She passed away peacefully [add any additional information about the circumstances if desired].

Toni was born on January 17th, 1933, in El Paso, TX, to Jacobo & Clotilde Ramirez. She relocated to Monterey County in the 1940s, then later settled in Castroville, CA.

She will be dearly missed by her loving children; Anita, Theresa (Greg), Vera, Stella, Michael & Cathy; 15 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; 3 brothers; and 3 sisters in-law. She is preceded in death by her parents, her son Robert, her daughter Barbara, her 3 brothers, and her 2 husbands (Frank Vasquez & Patrocinio Guevara).

Throughout her life, Toni was known for raising her 8 children as a single mother with unwavering support from her mother and 6 brothers. She enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, dancing, coloring, and wine tasting While Toni worked to receive her high school diploma from Salinas Adult School, she also earned several certificates. She proceeded to earn valedictorian at Hartnell College and an Associate of Arts Degree in 1974. While at Hartnell College, she also made the Dean’s List and Honor Roll.

Toni worked as a teacher’s aide for Head Start’s first graduating class of 1970. She also sat on the board and assisted in the opening of the Coalicion de Salud Para el Valle de Salinas. Toni was a member of LULAC and the Women in Action Organization and worked closely with migrant families. She later retired from her position as a health aide at the San Benito County Health Department.

A funeral will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024 at Healey Mortuary in Salinas, CA from 1-6 PM, where friends and family will gather to honor and celebrate the life of Toni. Viewing hours are from 1-4 PM. The eulogy, prayers, and informal tributes are from 4-6 PM. The burial and Celebration of Life will be held in May.
